Biography

Drop-in hours: W 10:00am–Noon, Th 2:00–3:00pm

Nathan Timbs received his BA in Political Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he graduated summa cum laude. Nathan worked on the forthcoming Issues in Civil Wars (ICW) Dataset, documenting rebel group grievances under Dr. Krista Wiegand and Dr. Eric Keels. His primary research interests include civil conflict, rebel governance, human rights, and the climate change-conflict nexus.

Currently, Nathan works as a research assistant on two grants led by Dr. Elizabeth Menninga and Dr. Alyssa Prorok documenting civil war negotiations and rebel group-government cooperation. These projects contribute to our understanding of conflict and negotiation dynamics as these processes are a combination of positive and negative interactions over time. His own research currently investigates the influence of climate shocks on human rights in the context of civil war while a separate paper investigates the effectiveness of rebel group commitments to human rights.
