- Rene Rocha, 2014 University of Iowa Obermann Interdisciplinary Research Grant. The Obermann Interdisciplinary Research Grants (IDRG) foster collaborative scholarship and creative work by offering recipients time and space to exchange new ideas leading to invention, creation, and publication.
- Alyssa Prorok, 2014 Old Gold Summer Fellowship from the College of Liberal Arts. The Old Gold Summer Fellowship Awards provide support to not-yet-tenured faculty for summer work on an approved developmental project, which may focus on research, creative work, or instruction. The fellowship is expected to result in at least one project for publication, exhibit, performance, or instructional use.

- Cameron G. Thies, 2013 recipient of the Ladd Hollist Service Award from the International Studies Association. This award is given in recognition of an International Studies Association member’s significant volunteer contribution to the ISA.
- Sara Mitchell, 2013 Susan S. Northcutt Award. The award recognizes a person who actively works towards recruiting and advancing women and other minorities in the profession, and whose spirit is inclusive, generous and conscientious.
- Julianna Pacheco and Fred Solt, 2013 Old Gold Summer Fellowship from the College of Liberal Arts. This award provides recipients with funding for summer work to carry out the activities described in the proposal, which may center on research activities, creative work, or instructional development.
- Tracy Osborn, 2012-2014 Dean's Scholar award. The award established in 1999, recognizes newly tenured faculty early in their careers. The awards are made on the advice of the college's Committee on Faculty Promotion and Tenure. Dean's Scholars are two-year awards that carry discretionary funds to support teaching and research initiatives.

The awards are made on the advice of the college's Committee on Faculty Promotion and Tenure. Dean's Scholars are two-year awards that carry discretionary funds to support teaching and research initiatives.
- Fred Boehmke, 2009-2012 CLAS Faculty Scholar award. The University of Iowa's program of Faculty Scholar Awards gives leading scholars the opportunity for creative work of the highest quality. Faculty Scholar Awards are meant to provide faculty of great promise with opportunities for extended and concentrated work.
- Caroline Tolbert, 2009-2011 Collegiate Scholar Award. Given to recognize mid-career faculty for exceptional achievement. The award carries discretionary funds to support the recipient's teaching and research initiatives. Collegiate Scholar awards are funded by a generous unrestricted gift to the College.
- Cameron G. Thies, 2009 Northeast Political Science Association Award for Best Article Published in Polity.
- Tom Rice and Cary Covington, 2008 inaugural Lane Davis Award for Honors Team Teaching in recognition of their pioneering work with the Iowa Policy Research Organization.
- Tom Rice received the 2008 Student Award for Outstanding Honors Teaching. Students presented the award at the annual Honors Recognition Ceremony in April.
- John Conybeare and Brian Lai, recognized with the 2008 International Studies Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award in May. They are being honored for their willingness to devote their time and expertise to working individually with International Studies students.
- Joel Barkan, Robert Mattes (University of Cape Town), and Shaheen Mozaffar (Bridgewater State University), were awarded the first of three $100,000 grants from DFID, the British foreign assistance agency, to support the African Legislatures Project (ALP), a comparative study of legislative development in 18 African countries. They also expect co-funding from the World Bank. ALP is based at the Centre for Social Science Research (CSSR) at the University of Cape Town where Joel has been a research fellow the past three years.
- Fred Boehmke's paper "The Influence of Unobserved Factors on Position Timing and Content in the NAFTA Vote" was awarded the Miller Prize for 2007. The prize is given by the Society for Political Methodology for the best article appearing in Political Analysis in the previous calendar year.
- Michael Lewis-Beck, (with Eric Bélanger and Richard Nadeau) was awarded a SAS-International Institute of Forecasters grant to “Improve the Forecasting of General Elections in the United Kingdom.”
- Sara Mitchell, Faculty Scholar for the years 2007-2010. These University awards are given to mid-career faculty to recognize scholarship that demonstrates exceptional promise. Mitchell will be released from half of her usual teaching, advising, and service for three years, allowing for concentration on research.
