Alex's research interests focus on the intersection of national identity and natural resources in the context of international relations. In previous research, he focused on topics such as the legality of resource expropriation and how resource nationalism was utilized by Russia during the Crimean annexation. He is broadly curious about how national identity is utilized in conjunction with natural resources during moments of international conflict or tension.
Alex graduated from Trinity College (Connecticut), with a degree in Political Science, specializing in Comparative Politics. He holds an MSc in Nationalism Studies from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and a JD from Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he was a Lead Research Editor for the Temple International and Comparative Law Journal. Prior to Iowa, Alex was in the Presidential Management Fellowship program in Washington, DC, where he was a Regulatory Specialist with the Mine Safety and Health Administration and the U.S. Forest Service. He is currently working to complete a Ph.D. in political science.
