Sami DeRagon
I am currently a PhD candidate in political science, studying American Politics and Methodology. My research seeks to further explore the effect of gender on political behavior, specifically using social role theory to understand the role of gender expectations on political behavior. I graduated from Siena College in May 2022 with a BA in Political Science and Political Communication, as well as a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
My dissertation seeks to answer the question how does gender ideology impact political behavior and attitudes? I investigate this relationship on four outcome variables: political knowledge, affective polarization, partisanship, and voting behavior. In this work, I explore the mechanisms that connect the expectations an individual has for themselves based on their gender to how they behave politically.
