"I am so honored to win the Global Student Award. I could not have earned such a title without the unlimited support of the Political Science Department. I especially owe it to Professor Lai for considering and nominating me for the award. I hope the publicity around this award inspires my peers at Iowa to pursue as many opportunities as possible to engage with international education on campus and beyond. There is so much one can do to contribute to those worldwide conversations about timely topics in politics, culture, and society; I am glad to have shared a little bit with the university body about my experiences doing so. It seems like global mindedness is now more important than ever!"

Amna Haider (she/her) is a senior double majoring in International Relations (Conflict and Foreign Policy Track) and Philosophy and is pursuing a Human Rights Certificate. On campus, Amna is a Political Science Peer Mentor and works as a Resident Assistant for the Political Matters Living Learning Community in Catlett Hall. On campus, she serves as a University Lecture Committee member, the President of the Walk-it-Out Multicultural Fashion Show, and the founder/President of the new peace activism student organization called Peace by Peace. Off campus, Amna interns with the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council where she helps bring weekly speakers to the Iowa City community to speak about global issues.
