Meet the newest members of the Political Science Alumni Advisory Board – Andrew Bohn, Lindsay Crittendon, and Maria Makar!
ANDREW BOHN
Born and raised in West Des Moines, Andrew Bohn graduated from the University of Iowa in 2020 with double majors in journalism and international relations. During his time at Iowa, he participated in the Undergraduate Political Science Association, the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council, and interned at the Department of Homeland Security. After graduation, he accepted a job on Capitol Hill as a staff assistant for Senator Joni Ernst. During his time in Senator Ernst’s office, he was promoted to legislative correspondent to handle financial services, banking, and economic policy. In February of 2023, Andrew accepted a job as legislative aide for Congressman Zach Nunn – who represents Andrew’s home district of IA-3.
Andrew is passionate about working on issues related to critical and emerging technology, financial innovation, economic national security, global investment, cybersecurity, financial market infrastructure, and U.S. capital markets. He is currently a fellow in the American Capitalism Seminar at The Public Interest Fellowship and is an Executive Board Member of the Iowa State Society in Washington, D.C. When not working or chatting about politics, Andrew can be found on one of the many golf courses across the DMV.
LINDSAY CRITTENDON
Lindsay Crittendon currently serves as Vice President, Growth Initiatives for Hippo Holdings (NYSE: HIPO). In this capacity, she leads innovation across products and service lines with a particular focus on proptech, data, and building new lines of business. Before her time at Hippo, Lindsay built and scaled Headspace for Work, the enterprise business offering from Headspace Health. Lindsay has spent most of her career in the tech startup ecosystem, including joining the founding team of Y-Combinator-backed Chute Corporation, acquired by ESW Capital in 2018.
She's a founding member of Operator's Guild, a global organization focused on the unique needs of operations, strategy, and finance professionals at tech companies. She is a limited partner of FOG Ventures. During her free time, she coaches founders in the health and wellness space, as well as volunteers in her local public school system.
Lindsay holds a B.A. in Political Science and Journalism from the University of Iowa. During her time at Iowa, she was active in UISG, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, and the James Gang/10,000 Hours Show.
MARIA MAKAR
Maria Makar is a civil rights attorney at Loevy & Loevy in Chicago, IL. Her practice focuses on protecting the rights of individuals in jails, prisons, and other detention facilities throughout the country.
Maria began her legal career at Weil, Gotshal & Manges in New York, New York. She then served as a law clerk for the Honorable Jill A. Otake of the District of Hawaii and went on to clerk for the Honorable Kenneth K. Lee of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Maria received a J.D. from Harvard Law School. While in law school, Maria volunteered for the Prison Legal Assistance Project and was Co-Chair of the Mississippi Delta Project and the Harvard Journal on Legislation. She interned at the Public Defender Service of D.C. and the South African Human Rights Commission.
Maria earned a B.S. with Honors in Political Science from University of Iowa. While at Iowa, she volunteered for the Johnson County Crisis Center as a crisis interventionist and suicide first-aid respondent. She worked at Hoefer Law Firm and the University of Iowa Writing Center. She also volunteered abroad in Pondicherry, India.
Maria grew up in Mason City, Iowa and is a first-generation immigrant.
