Rafiul Karim holds bachelor's and master's degrees in international relations from the University of Dhaka, where he received the Chairperson's Award for his Master's and a merit-based Government Scholarship during his undergraduate studies.

His interests center on migration, climate change, human security, and development, with a particular focus on the Global South. He has recently worked on an EU-funded project examining irregular migration from Bangladesh. His academic work explores issues including migration, demographic change, urban poverty, climate change, and their implications for human security.
